BRITONS are heading for a lean Christmas, as they plan to tighten their belts and cut back on credit card spending. Spending on plastic for the three months to end-December is set to rise 12 per cent on the third quarter, but will be 10.8 per cent lower than the same period last year - falling to an average £940 from £1,054.


Warning fees may rise on Visa ruling

A POTENTIAL ruling against charges levied by credit card giant Visa could have an adverse effect on consumers. The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) this week issued a "statement of objections" against Visa's interchange fee - levied by banks on retailers, who pass on the cost to customers by raising the price of goods.
