MORTGAGE application fees have soared by up to 22 per cent during the past year, with some borrowers facing four figure charges. The average fee charged to someone taking out a discount mortgage has risen by 15 per cent to £407, while fees for fixed rate loans are 22 per cent higher at an average of £494, according to financial website MoneyExpert.com.
